NTD TV App

Internationnal Television

Overview : Scope of the project

New Tang Dynasty Television (NTD TV) is the largest independent international Chinese channel, headquartered in New York. It broadcasts to over 100 million viewers worldwide. Founded in 2001, NTD TV became the first independent news channel focused on China in the United States and Europe.

I worked onsite in New York to develop a prototype (MVP) of the app, utilizing Figma for the design process. My contributions included app design, user research, strategy development, brand identity creation, and collaboration with the IT and development teams. This involved attending meetings, refining project goals, and ensuring seamless teamwork to bring the concept to life.

App Prototype

The prototype of the NTD France application is easy to use, intuitive and visually appealing. It is aimed at an audience that follows television news, films and show productions.

Donation Process

NTD TV is an independent broadcaster. In order to finance the production of news and films, NTD TV offers its listeners the opportunity to actively participate in donations. The donation process must be simple and allow for quick donations.

Ask for New Topic

NTD TV enables broadcasters to propose new news or interview topics using this form. Users can easily specify which broadcast their proposal pertains to.
The form redirects the request to the relevant program team, who will follow up if the proposed topic is accepted.

Our main problem

Complex Navigation:
Issue: Users may get lost in multi-layered menus or unclear navigation paths, leading to frustration.
Impact: Increases the time it takes for users to locate desired content, reducing overall satisfaction.
Inconsistent Design Across Devices:
Issue: The app may not scale or adapt well across TVs, tablets, and mobile devices, creating inconsistent user experiences.
Impact: Leads to confusion and a lack of trust in the platform’s reliability.
Difficult Content Discovery:
Issue: Ineffective search, filtering, or categorization can make finding content cumbersome.
Impact: Frustrates users and decreases engagement.
Lack of Interaction Feedback:
Issue: Users might not receive adequate visual or auditory cues when interacting with the app (e.g., focus highlighting or button feedback).
Impact: Users feel unsure if their actions were registered, causing confusion.
Color and Contrast Issues:
Issue: Overuse of bright or saturated colors (like red) can cause eye strain, while poor contrast may obscure important elements.
Impact: Reduces readability and aesthetic appeal on various screens.

Our best solutions

Simplify Navigation:
Use linear menu structures with clear labels and breadcrumbs to make paths intuitive. Include a “home” button or shortcut to allow easy navigation recovery.
Ensure Responsive Designs:
Optimize layouts to adapt seamlessly across TVs, tablets, and mobile devices.
Use consistent visuals and functionality to create a unified experience.
Enhance Content Discovery:
Implement effective search tools, intuitive filters, and personalized recommendations.
Categorize content logically to minimize clicks needed to find it.
Add Interaction Feedback:
Incorporate visible focus highlights, sound effects, and animations to confirm user actions. Use consistent cues across the app to build familiarity.
Optimize Colors for TVs:
Avoid overly saturated colors and use softer tones for a comfortable viewing experience. Test color schemes on different TV models to ensure universal appeal.

YIN – NTD

” Sofia worked for our television on location in New York, where we had invited her. She was able to create a modern and functional website and design an App for us in a very short space of time. Given the high quality and her attention to the user experience, we highly recommend these services. One of the outstanding features of the website is her content management system, which allows the broadcaster to easily update the website with the latest news, videos and programme schedules. Thank you Sofia! “
